Whether you’re a beginner or more experienced artist our classes offer a fun, relaxed and nurturing environment to learn ceramics. We’ve created a space to inspire you, where you can switch off from the stresses of the outside world and channel your creativity into learning a craft. Come and make something you can use around the house or treasure forever. Our students range from complete beginners to those who have been coming to us for many years. Class sizes are small so the we can offer individual attention and tons and tons of encouragement.

What to expect
We run our classes in 4 week sessions. This makes it easier to fit it into your schedule and keeps it affordable. You’re welcome to only attend one four week session if you choose to, but we must warn you pottery is incredibly addictive and you will probably want to attend more! On the third week of class you have the option of signing up for another month of classes and then we put any empty spots on the website ( join our mailing list to be notified)
We teach throwing and handbuilding in most of our classes. Most students want to start on the wheel and we will take new students through the process of throwing, trimming and glazing a pot. If throwing isn’t for you give handbuilding a try. There are many ways to make something from clay and you are welcome to try as many as you wish from pinching to coiling to slab building.
If you prefer to attend a class which is only throwing or only handbuilding we have those too! At the end of the 4 week period you are welcome to switch to another class time, just ask your teacher about available space. Unfortunately we aren’t able to switch students to another class mid - month.

Whether a beginner or experienced artist, students must be prepared to stretch their imagination. You will make a piece you never thought possible!
Susan Berman - Engineering large Forms, Fantastical Botanicals
Flowers, branches, fruits, and vegetables are objects of wonder in themselves, but in clay sculpture they act as design elements to direct the eye, introduce texture, and suggest movement in the objects they festoon. On day one we start small, layering delicate beauties onto functional ware and wrestling vegetables into suspiciously lifelike arrangements. On day two we go bigger. Combining bisque molded or thrown pieces with coil building, slabs, and pulled elements, Susan will demonstrate how to construct organic-looking sculpture that blurs the line between realism and fantasy, along with ways to work these techniques into the construction of everyday objects such as lamps, mirrors, and candelabra. We will address glazing, slip decoration, and the engineering of large forms and characters.
We will use Alligator Raku Lite #138, a clay body that stands up to punishment. If you have a sculpture body you prefer to use, please contact us in advance for instructions. We will provide all the tools you need and an apron, bring a turntable if you have one.
