John Donovan

John Donovan has had his hands in clay most of his life. At the age of five, John first met clay in the studios of Stonehaus Architectural Ceramics in Pensacola, FL, where he learned from master artists Xinia Marin and Peter King. He later went on to earn his BFA from Loyola University, New Orleans and MA & MFA degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University, Texas. John received an honorable mention in the 2005 World Ceramic Biennale Competition in Icheon, South Korea, and in 2011 John was awarded an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Tennessee Arts Commission. John is represented by LeMieux Galleries in New Orleans and has held teaching appointments at the University of West Florida, Middle Tennessee State University, Volunteer State College, O’More College of Design, Watkins College of Art + Design, Belmont University and Vanderbilt University. John is a co-founder of Buchanan Arts, a 501(c)3 nonprofit art program in Nashville, TN. In the studio, John is equally excited about making sculptural objects that tell a story as well as producing highly functional tableware for restaurants and homes.

John Currently teaches our one day workshops and you couldn’t hope for a more experienced teacher to set you on the right path. When he isn’t teaching with us he’s busy working with his son making tiles and functional pottery at Donovan Ceramics.
